PAUL "VINCENT" D'INDY - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 09/15/1915

✚✚✚ PAUL "VINCENT" D'INDY - AUTOGRAPH LETTER SIGNED 09/15/1915

PAUL VINCENT D'INDY Letter in French, advising a woman to contact a publisher directly, instead of going through him Autograph Letter signed: "Vincent d'Indy", 2 pages (front and verso), 4½x7. Boffres [Ardeche, France], 1915 September 15. In French, loosely translated. "Dear Madam - Excuse me for your having to wait for my reply, but I just returned here September 1st after an absence of 15 days, and your letter was among 150 others which awaited me on my return. Since I wasn't it Paris, it wasn't possible for me to carry your material to your protégé at the Tribune, and I will not return to Paris before November. In any case, it would be best that your young man write directly to the Publishing Bureau, 269 Rue St Jacques, and he will obtain all the necessary information for sending the manuscript. The Publishing Bureau is completely separate from the school, and although we have worked well together, we only have occasional contact. Please accept, Madam, the expression of my best wishes". French composer and music teacher Paul Vincent d'Indy (1851-1931), dissatisfied with the quality of teaching at the Paris Conservatory, founded the Schola Cantorum de Paris (the school referenced in this letter) in 1894. His own compositions, greatly influenced by the works of Wagner, are not often performed today. His notable works include "Symphony on a French Mountain Air"; and a symphonic poem, "Ishtar." Vincent d'Indy influenced many students, including Xian Xinghai, one of the first Chinese to compose in the Western classical tradition. Politically, he was a staunch royalist. Minor foxing throughout letter. Fine condition. For more information contact HistoryForSale. DOCUMENT 22319
